Driver Safety

Stay safe on every trip.

A practical checklist for Zorq driver-partners. Follow these tips to keep yourself, your vehicle and every customer's goods safe — from loading to drop-off.

Become a Driver
Before you drive
Prepare yourself and your vehicle before every job so the trip starts safely.
  1. 1

    Do a pre-trip vehicle check

Check tyre pressure, brakes, lights, indicators and fluid levels before accepting or starting a job. A quick two-minute walk-around prevents breakdowns and accidents mid-delivery.

  2. 2

    Rest before you drive

Never drive tired. Take breaks on long runs, stay hydrated, and pull over if you feel drowsy. Fatigue is one of the leading causes of delivery accidents.

  3. 3

    Secure your load properly

Use straps, ropes, tie-downs or shrink wrap so nothing shifts while driving. An unsecured load is dangerous for you and other road users — and it can damage the customer's goods.

  4. 4

    Check your documents

Carry a valid driver's license, your vehicle registration, proof of insurance and your Zorq driver profile on every trip. Keep them within easy reach.

While on the road
Focus on the road and drive defensively, whatever the conditions.
  1. 5

Drive defensively and obey speed limits

Keep a safe following distance, signal early, and expect other drivers to make mistakes. Speed limits exist for a reason — adjust for rain, traffic and load weight.

  2. 6

Keep your phone out of reach

Use Zorq's in-app navigation on a secured mount and never handle your phone while moving. Pull over to accept, adjust or review a job if you need to.

  3. 7

Park safely for every pickup and drop-off

Stop in a legal, visible spot and use hazard lights if needed. Avoid blocking driveways or fire hydrants, and make sure you're visible to oncoming traffic when unloading.

  4. 8

    Watch your surroundings when reversing

Check mirrors and blind spots before reversing, and use a spotter where possible. Go slowly and never reverse into an area you cannot see clearly.

Handling the load & customers
Protect the customer's goods, and lift and interact safely.
  1. 9

Lift with your legs, not your back

Bend at the knees, keep the load close to your body, and get help with anything heavy. Use a trolley or ask the customer for assistance when needed.

  2. 10

Confirm the pickup and check the goods

Verify you have the right customer and address. Note any existing damage to items before loading, and mention it so there are no disputes later.

  3. 11

Keep fragile and heavy items separated

Place heavy items on the bottom and fragile goods on top, well-padded. Load the truck so nothing can topple or slide during the trip.

  4. 12

Lock your vehicle during every stop

Keep your truck and its cargo secure at every pickup, drop-off or break. Never leave valuable goods or your keys unattended.

Emergencies & wellbeing
Know what to do when something goes wrong, and look after yourself.
  1. 13

    Have an emergency kit

Keep a first-aid kit, warning triangle, fire extinguisher, torch and a phone power bank in your vehicle at all times.

  2. 14

    Know the emergency contact path

For emergencies call 10111 (police) or 10177 (ambulance). For any job issue, contact driver support in the app or WhatsApp us straight away.

  3. 15

    Report incidents immediately

If there's an accident, damage or a safety concern, stop, make sure everyone is safe, and report it to Zorq as soon as possible — don't wait until the end of your shift.

  4. 16

    Trust your instincts

If a pickup or drop-off feels unsafe, don't continue. Contact driver support and request to cancel or reassign the job. Your safety always comes first.

Have a safety moment?

In an emergency, call 10111 (police) or 10177 (ambulance). For any non-emergency issue, report it to driver support straight away via WhatsApp or email at drivers@zorq.co.za.
